Knitting/Spinning Goals-2006

I have been doing a lot of thinking about the direction I would like to take my knitting and spinning in. The way I see it, I have two options. I can continue on the way I have been, dyeing wool in random patterns, spinning it up thick and chunky and knitting nice warm things from it. Theres nothing wrong with that and it is a lot of fun. I have managed to produce a lot of things that my children, friends and relatives have enjoyed and love doing things that way.

The fact of the matter is though, that fat chunky yarns are not where my heart lies. When I first got my spinning wheel, I thought I would use it to spin yarns I could use in Fair Isle work. Lace, Fair Isle and more traditional knitting has always been what I wanted to do. Then, when I started spinning. I was less than pleased with the fine yarns that I ended up with, because they were a little harsh and scratchy. I was overspinning them, because I hadnt yet learned how to spin soft yarns with lower twist. I think now that I have learned how to do that, I can successfully go back to spinning thinner yarns with better results.

That leads me to thinking about what I would like to do in the next year, and I have come up with a list of goals, things to work towards.

1.Design a Fair Isle sock pattern
2. Blend rovings and spin them into the yarn to use in the socks.
3. Design an aran style sock and a yarn to use for it.
4. Submit both sock designs to the Tulsa state fair.

I think those are realistic goals, and probably not too ambitious.

I also need to work on developing some color sense. I have been running on instinct there, and I need to start reading some things on color theory.

Personally, I need to also find a good Bible study, and getting my heart back in the right place. I have some anger about the whole situation with Dads passing that I really need to get rid of, especially since I am not going to get any answers short of Heaven. I have decided I am going to be more open on this blog about my faith. I have kind of pussy footed around about it, because I didnt want people to feel uncomfortable. The truth of the matter is though, its my blog. I shouldnt be uncomfortable writing about the biggest part of my life on my blog. I have joined the Christian Knitters web ring, and Im going to start talking about my walk with the Lord. I dont feel like there is anything else I can do.  Posted by Picasa
