Finished Ambrosia!

I just know you all are going to faint dead away when you hear I’ve finished a pair of socks. I can’t even begine to remember how many pairs of socks I have started and frogged in the last year, so I am tickled pink to have finished a pair. 

These are the Ambrosia socks from Interweave Knits, a free pattern available here. This was a very enjoyable and quick knit. I didn’t knit the tops of the socks too long because I wear wool socks under pants, and I just wanted to have them done. I really think the reason I knit from the toe up, other than wanting to make sure I don’t run out of yarn, is because the foot and heel are my favorite part, just knitting straight is so boring to me. I like the increases and decreases of shaping.

Anyway, I was telling you about my trip to the yarn store in Parkersburg, and one of the many things I bought there was more sock yarn. Only one skeing, but what a beautiful skein it is! I don’t know whether to knit with this Trekking Pro Natura or the Lorna’s Laces Watercolor that I already have in the stash.  I do know that while I am on a sock roll I am going to continue knitting socks. I was down to one pair last winter, and it was not fun. I’d like to have at least 2 more pairs done before cold weather gets here.

 

And what else did I get on that first trip to the yarn store? Fiber! I wanted a memento of this vacation, and I couldn’t think of anything that would be better than fiber to spin and knit into something gorgeous.  And gorgeous is what I got! My first fiber purchase was this 100% Llama roving from Timbre Ridge. This is a limited edition fiber called Canyon Red and it is so soft and easy to spin. I love it. I think it will make a great scarf or small shawl. I have 8 ounces of this, so spun fine it should make a nice lace weight yarn.  Llama is like Alpaca though, in that it has no memory, and is a little harder to spin than wool, so I’ll have to wait and see how it wants to be spun.

The other fiber was really an impulse purchase. I didn’t really need it, but I was just drawn over and over to the colors. These are all my favorite colors, although in the top form they are a little shocking. Once spun and plied, they are a little more muted and I think it will make a great yarn.  There is ten ounces of this, plenty for socks or mittens.

Can you tell I had fun a Market Street Yarn and Crafts? It was a great shop and I look forward to seeing them again the next time we get home for a visit.
